History of the Hungarian Polo Club
The Club was established in 1927 by Prince Heinrich Borwin of Mecklenburg, a great supporter of Hungarian polo and equine sports. He had the idea to provide the new playerswith club ponies to rent which gave an extreme development to the sport. The Club has built its beautiful field on the Margaret-island, in the heart of Budapest, and the games attracted many spectators every weekend.
The Club was dormant under compulsion from 1943 until the re-foundation took place in 2000. The full size new fields were opened in 2003 in the beautiful surroundings of the Váli-valley, at the old village of Tabajd, thirty minutes drive from Budapest on the motorway M7.
A cordial welcome is always extended to visitors and all who is interested in polo. Club chukkers and practice games are held three times a week. MPC provides a wonderful opportunity for riders and non-riders wanting to learn and play polo in a safe and friendly atmosphere. All equipment is provided, with tuition from experienced players. Renting well-trained horses makes polo available for beginners without hard commitment, and ladies also are encouraged to try the sport.
